First I would request my brothers and sisters to develop an understanding to approach the matter to be discussed:
1- How important do you think for a Muslim is to believe in prophet Jesus a.s.Ascension and Descend ..to stay as a Muslim...when this idea , concept or belief is NOT one of the articles of Muslim Faith?
2- How much importance should a Muslim give to Hadith IF it is proven contradictory/offending to Quran, especially if it concerns some important idea, concept or belief of the Islamic System?
(Remember the fact that the Hadith were compiled after about 200 years of prophet Muhammad 's(S) death.They were NOT written by the hands of Prophet of Islam(S) ..nor ...were they dictated or saved in his supervision. Moreover Hadiths cannot be accounted as REVELATIONS also, if they had been then they surely would have been include in the Holy Book -Al Quran. At the same time the importance of the Hadith as a necessary source of information can not be denied. It is not easy to understand many Islamic teachings without them being explained by Hadith. Similarly Hadith makes is easy for Muslims to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (S).
SoIf a Hadith creates confusion in understanding a clear message of Quran then it shown be examined closely under the light of Quran -Allah's Words..Jazakallah)

PART I
A Hadith directly and indirectly related to an Ayat of the Holy Quran regarding the subject of my argument is as follows;
Narrated Abu Huraira r.
Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler); he will break the Cross and kill the pigs and there will be no Jizya (i.e. taxation taken from non Muslims). Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it, and a single prostration to Allah (in prayer) will be better than the whole world and whatever is in it." Abu Huraira added "If you wish, you can recite (this verse of the Holy Book): -- 'And there is none Ofthe people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians) But must believe in him (i.e Jesus as an Apostle of Allah and a human being) Before his death. And on the Day of Judgment He will be a witness Against them." (4.159) (See Fateh Al Bari, Page 302 Vol 7)

Analysis:
Abu Huraira based his claim on Ayat 4:159 of the Quran
Abu Huraira added "If you wish, you can recite (this verse of the Holy Book): -- 'And there is none Ofthe people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians) But must believe inhim (i.e Jesus as an Apostle of Allah and a human being) Before his death. And on the Day of Judgment He will be a witness Against them."
(Please note that Abu Hurairah ADDED his own interpretations and referred it to an Ayat of the holy Quran.)
Let's have a look at the subject matter of some previous Ayaat of this Surah (Nisa),at first.
4:157
َوَقَوْلِهِمْ إِنَّا قَتَلْنَا الْمَسِيحَ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَٰكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ ۚ مَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِلَّا اتِّبَاعَ الظَّنِّ ۚ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ يَقِينًا
مَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَـكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ اخْتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِلاَّ اتِّبَاعَ الظَّنِّ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ يَقِينًا
That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- (Y.Ali)
Subject Matter: (4:157)
1-"The CLAIM of the ENEMIES of JESUS a.s."
that..they have 'killed' the the son of Mary a Messenger of Allah.
and
2- "Allah's CLAIM about JESUS a.s. "
a-The enemies of Jesus could NOT kill him.
b-The enemies of Jesus could NOT crucify him.
The above TWO MAIN CLAIMS are very CLEAR.
Here comes the disputed situation..
3-Allah's CLAIM about the situationوَلَٰكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْIt just APPEARED to them as IF THEY had killed or crucified Jesus .............(but they could not...)
We can relate to different interpretations of the DOUBTED situation here regarding how actually Allah Almighty SAVED Jesus a.s from being killed or getting crucified by the Jews, BUT.......I actually need to move on since this becomes un-related to what I need to focus on...
(You need be sure only that Allah Almight DID SAVE his beloved Prophet Jesus a.s from the death of dis-honour ...please keep in mind this Ayat too for the sake of reference that why the enemies of Jesus a.s. were doing thatوَبِكُفْرِهِمْ وَقَوْلِهِمْ عَلَى مَرْيَمَ بُهْتَانًا عَظِيمًا4:156
That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge;
They rejected the Faith that Humble prophet was sent for only because they questioned his mother's Mary's piety)
Let's move onto next Ayat now
بَل رَّفَعَهُ اللّهُ إِلَيْهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا 4:158
Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;-
You can take RAFA as bodily OR Spiritual Ascension according to you understanding
I need to move onto the next Ayat 4:159...the very Ayat referred by Abu Hurairah r.
وَإِن مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ إِلاَّ لَيُؤْمِنَنَّ بِهِ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًاAnd there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them;- This Ayat will decides every thing. Please look back the SUBJECT MATTER discussed in Ayat 4:157 again. Remember Allah has informed us about a disputed situation about the claims of the enemies of Jesus a.s and Allah Himself is refuting those claims. Keep in mind that these CLAIMS are still THERE..I mean HERE!Now kindly read all the translations of the Arabic "Wa in mim ahlil kitaabe illa layuminanna bihi"..
this BIHI could be HIM OR THIS/IT
Khalifa
Everyone among the people of the scripture was required to believe in him before his death. On the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.
Pickthall
There is not one of the People of the Scripture but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them
Shakir
And there is not one of the followers of the Book but most certainly believes in this before his death, and on the day of resurrection he (Isa) shall be a witness against them.
Sher Ali
And there is none among the People of the Book but will continue to believe in it before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) shall be a witness against them.
it's obvious that most translators preferred to use 'him' instead of 'it'. Shakir and Sher Ali preferred this/it..because of their pre-occupied minds with the idea that Allah means that the Ehle e Kitaab will not die until they will believe in Jesus a.s So why had they been dying already? What about a majority who has already died without believing in Jesus a.s !!!!!
Please keep finding the answers to my argument..with rational thinking.
That's not all...Please note that Allah has used Ehl e Kitaab..meaning Christians and Jews BOTH who has been believing in Jesus a.s DEATH ON CROSS
Meaning..
"That all people of the Book will keep on believing what they had CLAIMED FOR....THE DEATH OF JESUS a.s.....and nothing except this/it , before their deaths." Please Recall that the Dispute was NOT ABOUT BELIEVING IN JESUS The dispute was ABOUT THE CLAIM THAT THEY HAD KILLED JESUS.
So the right translation of 'BIHI' must be THIS not HIM
And didn't you MISS this part..وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا. .that JESUS HIMSELF WILL WITNESS AGAINST THEIR CLAIM OF KILLING/CRUCIFYING HIM...when all the disbelievers who kept on beliveing in a WRONG CLAIM will be gathered ON THE JUGDMENT DAY....Inshallah! .... Let's assume...... that Allah planned to send him down ..before Judgement day which is obviously NOT mentioned in the Ayat...still....only because Allah wants everyone to BELIEVE IN JESUS...and he comes and all people believe in him...then why would he be WITNESSING AGAINST THEM....????????????? He will be WITNESSING AGAINST THEIR CLAIM...that THEY WERE WRONG IN THEIR CLAIM. AND ALLAH'S CLAIM WAS RIGHT...but only at the DAY OF JUDGMENT..not before it...this or that way... CONCLUSION: 1-JESUS WAS NOT KILLED/NOR CRUCIFIED 2-JEWS AND CHRISTIANS (TOO) WILL KEEP ON BELIEVING THAT HE WAS KILLED/CRUCIFIED 3-ON THE JUDGMENT DAY JESUS WILL WITNESS AGAINST THEIR CLAIM. 4-ABU HURAIRAH R. 5:116 .... Shakir
وَإِذْ قَالَ اللّهُ يَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ أَأَنتَ قُلتَ لِلنَّاسِ اتَّخِذُونِي وَأُمِّيَ إِلَـهَيْنِ مِن دُونِ اللّهِ قَالَ سُبْحَانَكَ مَا يَكُونُ لِي أَنْ أَقُولَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِحَقٍّ إِن كُنتُ قُلْتُهُ فَقَدْ عَلِمْتَهُ تَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِي وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِكَ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِAnd when Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! did you say to men, Take me and my mother for two gods besides Allah he will say: Glory be to Thee, it did not befit me that I should say what I had no right to (say); if I had said it, Thou wouldst indeed have known it; Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I do not know what is in Thy mind, surely Thou art the great Knower of the unseen things.
5:117
مَا قُلۡتُ لَهُمۡ إِلَّا مَآ أَمَرۡتَنِى بِهِۦۤ أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبَّكُمۡۚ وَكُنتُ عَلَيۡہِمۡ شَہِيدً۬ا مَّا دُمۡتُ فِيہِمۡۖ فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيۡتَنِى كُنتَ أَنتَ ٱلرَّقِيبَ عَلَيۡہِمۡۚ وَأَنتَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ شَہِيدٌI did not say to them aught save what Thou didst enjoin me with: That serve Allah, my Lord and your Lord, and I was a witness of them so long as I was among them, but when Thou didst cause me to die, Thou wert the watcher over them, and Thou art witness of all things.
So Jesus a.s.will show his indifference to the claim of his followers..and will say he never claimed that he or his mother were Gods....when ?ON THE JUDGMENT DAY ONLY...AND NOT BEFORE IT...
Because if he comes back before Judgment day He might "correct" the "wrong" conception of his believers.
But it is clear that All Christians will keep calling him a son of God till Qayamah...unless they believe in Quran and become Muslim.
BTW How could this be easy when the common belief amonst majority of the Muslims is supporting and strengthening their faith? which is;Jesus was born without father+ Jesus was raised to the sky+ Jesus will come back before Qayamah= Someone like a GOD/GODLY
But they just AVOID calling him the SON OF GOD..!
I think that might be one of the reason why Allah Almighty called Jesus a.s Jesus the son of Mary a.s. so repeatedly in the holy Quran.
So believe him dead or alive..he is not going to come back according to Quran...and by the way Jesus a.s shows his ignorance about his followers belief of taking him and his mother Gods...which indicates that he is not alive and doesn't know what's happening in the world after him!!!

Another CLUE.....
The following Ayat shows a very interesting sequence of ALLAH'S PROMISES,
ت3:56إِذْ قَالَ اللّهُ يَا عِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَجَاعِلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ إِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ3:55 Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute
PROMISES:
1- 'I will put you to death'..A NATURAL DEATH ..and NOT THE DEATH OF DISHONOUR ON CROSS.
2- 'I will raise/save your HONOUR.(not to the sky as you HAVE already concluded)
3- 'I will clear you of the BLAMES of the DISBELIEVERS
4- 'I will give 'superiority' to the BELIEVERS OF JESSUS OVER THE NON-BELIEVERS.....TILL THE DAY OF JUDGMENT. 5- " I will give my JUDGMENT for the DISPUTED MATTERS ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT"

Since the scope of this topic..is not to prove Jesus a.s.'death' or life..directly or in-directly. I will avoid the first THREE PROMISES for the sake of argument.
The SCOPE OF THIS TOPIC is to REFUTE THE DANGEROUS CONCEPT/MISCONCEPTION/BELIEF OF SECOND-COMING OF JESUS A.S.ACCORDING TO QURAN ONLY.
So I will stress upon the LAST TWO PROMISES:
4- Allah Almighty will give superiority to the Believers of Jesus a.s (Christians) on the Non-Believers (Jews)....till .....THE DAY OF JUDGMENT...which means BOTH of them will EXIST till Qayamat's Day...which means that Jesus a.s will NOT return before Qayamat...otherwise ...BOTH should convert to Muslims or at least Jews should convert to Christians and there should NO ONE LEFT ...as Non-Believer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(But that's NOT the case according to Quran)
5-And the DISPUTE amongst them will be resolved ON the DAY OF JUDGMENT...NOT BEFORE IT!!!!!!!!
So No Jesus a.s BEFORE QAYAMAT..

Part IV"SIGN OF HOUR"...."QURAN" NOT JESUS A.S (43:61)Surah Al-Zukharaf (Ornament)...
Please study carefully with clear mind..
43:43 So hold thou fast to that which has been revealed to thee; for thou art on the right path.
43:44 And, truly, this Qur'an is a source of eminence for thee and for thy people; and you will, surely, be questioned.
43:45 And ask those of Our Messengers whom WE sent before thee, `Did WE appoint any deities beside the Gracious God, to be worshiped ?'
43:46 And, indeed, WE sent Moses with Our Signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs and he said, `I am, truly, a Messenger of the Lord of the worlds.'
43:47 But when he came to them with Our Signs, lo ! they laughed at them.
43:48 And WE showed them no Sign but it was greater than its preceding sister Sign, and WE seized them with punishment, that they might turn to US.
43:49 And each time they said, `O thou sorcerer, pray for us to thy Lord, according to the promise HE made with thee that if HE avert this evil from us, then we will, surely, follow guidance.'
43:50 But when WE removed the punishment from them, behold ! they broke their pledge.
43:51 And Pharaoh made a proclamation among his people:`O my people ! does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me and these streams flowing beneath me ? Do you not then see ?
43:52 `Nay, I am better than this despicable fellow who can scarcely express himself clearly.
43:53 `And why have not bracelets of gold bestowed on him, or angels accompanied him in serried ranks ?'
43:54 Thus did he make light of his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were a wicked people.
43:55 So, when they exited Our anger, WE took vengeance upon them, and drowned them all.
43:56 And WE made them a precedent, and an example for the coming generations.
43:57 And when the son of Mary is mentioned as an example, lo ! thy people raise a clamour thereat;
43:58 And they say, `Are our gods better, or he ?' They mention not this to thee but for the sake of disputation. Nay, but they are a contentious people.
43:59 He was only Our servant, on whom WE bestowed Our favour, and WE made him an Example for the children of Israel.
43:60 And if WE so willed, WE could make from among you angels to be your successors in the earth.
43:61 But, verily, he was a sign of the Hour. So entertain no doubt about it, but follow me. This is the right path.
43:62 And let not Satan hinder you, he is to you an open enemy.
43:63 And when Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, `Truly, I have come to you with wisdom, and to make clear to you some of that about which you differ. So fear ALLAH and obey me.
43:64 `Verily, ALLAH - HE is my Lord and your Lord. So worship HIM. This is the right path.'

First, I would like to remove the doubt again and make it clear to the readers that this Surah is about QURAN-THE TRUTH OF ITS TIME .....THE TRUTH OF ALL TIMES.
Kindly read the Above Ayaat again if you are not sure...
Also read the first few Ayaat of the same Surah.
43:2 I swear by the Book that makes things clear:
43:3 Surely We have made it an Arabic Quran that you may understand.
43:4 And surely it is in the original of the Book with Us, truly elevated, full of wisdom.
I used the Sher Ali Translation above only because it goes well with the 'subject matter'...and flows nicely..but now I would like to compare it with the translation of Shakir to make it more clear...
Kindly read the following Ayaat too..
43:5 What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people?
43:6 And how many a prophet have We sent among the ancients.
43:7 And there came not to them a prophet but they mocked at him.
43:8 Then We destroyed those who were stronger than these in prowess, and the case of the ancients has gone before,
43:9 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them;

Allah is telling Muhammad s.a.w that THIS QURAN IS A TRUTH....ITS THE SIGN OF HOUR.
43:43 Therefore hold fast to that which has been revealed to you; surely you are on the right path.
Now compare it to ....the DISPUTED AYAT..
43:61 And most surely 'it' is a knowledge of the hour, therefore have no doubt about it and follow me: this is the right path.
And again compare it with this also...
43:78 Certainly We have brought you the truth, but most of you are averse to the truth.

On the whole,Allah wanted to remind Prophet Muhammad s.a.w..that don't you worry ,all the prophets had been ridiculed because of the message that THE CREATOR IS ALLAH ONLY...and all people have been ASSOCIATING GODS WITH ALLAH....nothing new......So trust Quran which Allah has given ..and don't worry...you're on the 'right path'..
43:86 And those whom they call upon besides Him have no authority for intercession, but he who bears witness of the truth and they know (him).
43:87 And if you should ask them who created them, they would certainly say: Allah. Whence are they then turned back?
43:88 Consider his cry: O my Lord! surely they are a people who do not believe.
43:89 So turn away from them and say, Peace, for they shall soon come to know.

Conclusion:
1- All Prophets of Allah came with the SAME MESSAGE....THERE'S NO GOD BUT ALLAH!
2-They all were SIGNS/GIVEN SIGNS for THEIR TIME ONLY....THEIR "HOUR"
3- The SIGN OF MUHAMMAD'S TIME WAS QURAN ...FOR THAT HOUR and ....which is ALSO A SIGN OF ALL-TIMES...ALL HOURS...and not the 'Judgment day' ...only!
Note: All Muslims are required to believe that Jesus a.s. will be the sign of hour ONLY BECAUSE...all Muslim leaders are preferring Hadith over Quran and they don't ry to UNDERSTAND the gross meaning of this SURAH. Pity!
They are mis-using Ayat 43:61 without referring it to the CONTEXT.

Reminder: I have already discussed that QURAN NEVER SAYS that JESUS WILL COME BEFORE JUDGMENT DAY/QAYAMAT..Kindly go through the Topic Jesus-SecondComing Quran Vs Hadith which clarifies that Quran DOES NOT support the idea/belief of second coming of any prophet/prophets.
If All the rest of Ayaat in Quran PROVE , that He will not be here 'untill the Judgment day'..then definitely Quran canNOT CONTRADICT ITSELF....
Jesus a.s. will be here when ALL OTHER PROPHETS will ALSO be here...
[39:69] And the earth shall beam with the light of its Lord, and the Book shall be laid down, and the prophets and the witnesses shall be brought up, and judgment shall be given between them with justice, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.
and
16:27 Then on the resurrection day He will bring them to disgrace and say: Where are the associates you gave Me, for whose sake you became hostile? Those who are given the knowledge will say: Surely the disgrace and the evil are this day upon the unbelievers:

Innahu = This (Quran) not He (Jesus a.s)

43:78 Certainly We have brought you the truth, but most of you are averse to the truth.

And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way.
Please note:
1-Jesus's name is in bracket...which means it's by the choice of translator for Arabic "wa innahu" in Arabic.
2-Some of the translations uses a 'present tense' and not the 'future tense'. (intentionally/unintensionally)
3-Some of the above translations of 'wa inna hu" refer to 'Quran'(this) instead of Jesus as.
I kope you will come to the same conclusion in accordance with the conclusion made through the other Ayaat discussed in previous posts because QURAN DOES NOT CONTRADICT
